Liam Spencer is one of the north-west’s most popular artists and having attended university in Manchester he is able to encapsulate the unique ambience of the city through his work. He captures the subtle effects of the city’s light and colour resulting in atmospheric panoramas of Manchester’s urban environment.
‘The Mancunian Way’
This painting depicts a scene of Manchester at night in the rain. The car headlights reflect off the wet road giving the surreal impression of a giant Scalextric set.

‘Deansgate and Whitworth Street’
This painting portrays a dynamic intersection of the city, with a whole series of bridges, roads and transport links. All forms of transport are represented in this one space: trains, cars, trams, bicycles, boats and even planes passing across the sky.
‘Piccadilly Fog’
As fog sets in across the city of Manchester the glow of the street lamps is diffused creating a sinister atmosphere, also reflected in the emptiness of the space.

Viewing the city though the eyes of a local artist allowed me to see Manchester from a more personal perspective and to experience the city at its most alluring and most treasured.
